The SON

The ending will surprise you.

A wealthy man and his son loved to collect rare works of art.. They had everything in their collection, from Picasso to Raphael. They would often sit together and admire the great works of art.

When the Vietnam conflict broke out, the son went to war. He was very courageous and died in battle while rescuing another soldier. The father was notified and grieved deeply for his only son.

About a month later, just before Christmas,

There was a knock at the door. A young man stood at the door with a large package in his hands.

He said, ‘Sir, you don’t know me, but I am the soldier for whom your son gave his life. He saved many lives that day, and he was carrying me to safety when a bullet struck him in the heart and he died instantly. He often talked about you, and your love for art.’ The young man held out this package. ‘I know this isn’t much. I’m not really a great artist, but I think your son would have wanted you to have this.’

The father Opened the package. It was a portrait of his son, painted by the young man. He stared in awe at the way the soldier had captured the personality of his son in the painting. The father was so drawn to the eyes that his own eyes welled up with tears. He thanked the young man and offered to pay him for the picture.. ‘Oh, no sir, I could never repay what your son did for me.. It’s a gift.’

The father hung the portrait over his mantle. Every time visitors came to his home he took them to see the portrait of his son before he showed them any of the other great works he had collected.

The man died a few months later. There was to be a great auction of his paintings. Many influential people gathered, excited over seeing the great paintings and having an opportunity to purchase one for their collection.

On the platform sat the painting of the son. The auctioneer pounded his gavel. ‘We will start the bidding with this picture of the son. Who will bid for this s picture?’

There was silence..

Then a voice in the back of the room shouted, ‘We want to see the famous paintings.. Skip this one.’

But the auctioneer persisted. ‘Will somebody bid fo r this painting? Who will start the bidding? $100, $200?’

Another voice angrily. ‘We didn’t come to see this painting. We came to see the Van Gogh’s, the Rembrandts. Get on with the Real bids!’

But still the auctioneer continued. ‘The son! The son! Who’ll take the son?’

Finally, a voice came from the very back of the room.. It was the longtime gardener of the man and his son. ‘I’ll give $10 for the painting…’ Being a poor man, it was all he could afford.

‘We have $10, who will bid $20?’

‘Give it to him for $10. Let’s see the masters.’

The crowd was becoming angry. They didn’t want the picture of the son.

They wanted the more worthy investments for their collections.

The auctioneer pounded the gavel. ‘Going once, twice, SOLD for $10!’

A man sitting on the second row shouted, ‘Now let’s get on with the collection!’

The auctioneer laid down his gavel. ‘I’m sorry, the auction is over.’

‘What about the paintings?’

‘I am sorry. When I was called to conduct this auction, I was told of a secret stipulation in the will. I was not allowed to reveal that stipulation until this time.. Only the painting of the son would be auctioned. Whoever bought that painting would inherit the entire estate, including the paintings.

The man who took the son gets everything!’

God gave His son 2,000 years ago to die on the cross. Much like the auctioneer, His message today is: ‘The son, the son, who’ll take the son?’

Because, you see, whoever takes the Son gets everything.

FOR GOD SO LOVED THE WORLD HE GAVE HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON, WHO SO EVER BELIEVETH, SHALL HAVE ETERNAL LIFE…THAT’S LOVE

WHEN YOU THOUGHT I WASN’T LOOKING

A message every adult should read because children
are watching you and doing as you do, not as you say.

When you thought I wasn’t looking I saw you hang my
first painting on the refrigerator, and I immediately
wanted to paint another one.

When you thought I wasn’t looking I saw you feed a
stray cat, and I learned that it was good to be kind
to animals.

When you thought I wasn’t looking I saw you make my
favorite cake for me, and I learned that the little
things can be the special things in life.

When you thought I wasn’t looking I heard you say a
prayer, and I knew that there is a God I could always
talk to, and I learned to trust in Him.

When you thought I wasn’t looking I saw you make a
meal and take it to a friend who was sick, and I
learned that we all have to help take care of each other.

When you thought I wasn’t looking I saw you take care
of our house and everyone in it, and I learned we have
to take care of what we are given.

When you thought I wasn’t looking I saw how you
handled your responsibilities, even when you didn’t
feel good, and I learned that I would have to be
responsible when I grow up.

When you thought I wasn’t looking I saw tears come
from your eyes, and I learned that sometimes things
hurt, but it’s all right to cry.

When you thought I wasn’t looking I saw that you
cared, and I wanted to be everything that I could be.

When you thought I wasn’t looking I learned most of
life’s lessons that I need to know to be a good and
productive person when I grow up.

When you thought I wasn’t looking I looked at you and
wanted to say,’Thanks for all the things I saw when
you thought I wasn’t looking.’

BUT THINK THAT NO ONE EVER SEES.
LITTLE EYES SEE A LOT .

Each of us (parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle, teacher, friend)
influences the life of a child.

How will you touch the life of someone today? Just by sending this to someone else, you will probably make them at least think about their influence on others. Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak kindly. Leave the rest to God.

SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT:

Imagine that you had won the following prize in a contest:

Each morning your bank would deposit $ 86,400.00 in your private account for your use.

However, this prize had rules, just as any game has certain rules.

The first set of rules would be:

1. Everything that you didn’t spend during each day would be taken away from you.

2. You may not simply transfer money into some other account.

3. You may only spend it.

Each morning upon awakening, the bank opens your account with another $ 86,400.00 for that day.

The second set of rules:

1. The bank can end the game without warning; at any time it can say, “It’s over, the game is over!”

2. It can close the account and you will not receive a new one.

What would you personally do?

You would buy anything and everything you wanted, right?

Not only for yourself, but for all people you love, right?

Even for people you don’t know, because you couldn’t possibly spend it all on yourself, right?

You would try to spend every cent, and use it all, right?

ACTUALLY, THIS GAME IS REALITY, as each of us is in possession of such a “magical” bank. We just can’t seem to see it.

THE MAGICAL BANK IS “TIME”.

Each awakening morning we receive 86,400 seconds as a gift of life, and when we go to sleep at night, any remaining time is NOT credited to us.

What we haven’t lived up that day is forever lost, yesterday is forever gone.

Each morning the account is refilled, but the bank can dissolve your account at any time…….WITHOUT WARNING.

WELL, what will you do with your 86,400 seconds?

Aren’t they worth so much more than the same amount in dollars?

Think about that, and always think of this: Enjoy every second of your life, because time races by so much quicker than you think.

A young and successful
Executive was traveling down a neighborhood street,
Going a bit too fast in his new Jaguar. He was
Watching for kids darting out from between parked
Cars and slowed down

When he thought he saw
Something. As his car passed, no children appeared.
Instead, a brick smashed into the Jag’s side door!
He slammed on the brakes and backed the Jag back to
The spot where the brick had been thrown. The angry
Driver

Then jumped out of the
Car, grabbed the nearest kid and pushed him up
Against

A parked car shouting,
‘What was that all about and who are you? Just what
The heck are you doing? That’s a new car and that
Brick you threw is going to cost a lot of money. Why
Did you do it?’ The young boy was apologetic.
‘Please, mister…please, I’m sorry but I didn’t
Know what else to do,’ He pleaded. ‘I threw the
Brick because no one else would stop…’ With tears
Dripping down his face and off his chin, the youth
Pointed to a spot just around a parked car. ‘It’s my
Brother, ‘he said ‘He rolled off the curb and fell
Out of his wheelchair and I can’t lift him
Up.’

Now sobbing, the boy
Asked the stunned executive, ‘Would you please help
Me get him back into his wheelchair? He’s hurt and
he’s too heavy for me.’

Moved beyond words,
The driver tried to swallow the rapidly swelling
Lump in his throat He hurriedly lifted the
Handicapped boy back into the wheelchair, then took
Out a linen handkerchief and dabbed at the fresh
Scrapes and cuts. A quick look told him everything
Was going to be okay. ‘Thank you and may God bless
You,’ the grateful child told the stranger. Too
Shook up for words, the man simply watched the boy!
Push his wheelchair-bound brother down the sidewalk
Toward their home.

It was a long, slow
Walk back to the Jaguar. The damage was very
Noticeable, but the driver never bothered to repair
The dented side door.. He kept the dent there to
Remind him of this messag e: ‘Don’t go through life
So fast that someone has to throw a brick at you to
Get your attention!’ God whispers in our souls and
Speaks to our hearts. Sometimes when we don’t have
Time to listen, He has to throw a brick at us. It’s
Our choice to listen or
Not.

Thought for the Day:

If God had a Refrigerator,
your picture would be on It.

If He had a wallet,
Your photo would be in it.

He sends you flowers
Every spring.

He sends you a sunrise
Every morning Face it, friend -
He is crazy about You!

God didn’t promise
Days without pain, laughter without sorrow,
sun Without rain, but He did promise strength for the
Day, comfort for the tears,
and light for the Way.
